Step 2: Visual inspection of solar PV modules

Very common and frequent issue seen in grid connected solar PV rooftop projects is accumulation of dirt/soil/pollutants/bird droppings etc. on solar PV modules. If you discover that PV modules are covered with such things, get it cleaned immediately. If you are already following a cleaning cycle and still the issue is persistent, increase the cleaning cycle

While performing cleaning for few days or weeks, simultaneously perform “Step 1”. If you find positive results, continue to adopt the same cleaning procedures and cycles.

On the other hand, if no change is witnessed by adopting “Step 2” or the modules are not having any layer of dirt/soil/pollutants/bird droppings etc., proceed to “Step 3”

For module cleaning it is always recommended to follow O&M and cleaning procedures provided. If you don’t have any such procedures, please follow the below steps:

  • If you found any broken module, please do not proceed for cleaning of the modules. First, the broken module need to be replaced, then only it is recommended to proceed to cleaning.
  • If no module is found broken or the broken module is replaced, proceed for cleaning.
  • Best and preferred time to clean the modules is early morning or late evening time, when the module glass temperature is almost equal to ambient or cleaning water temperature.
  • Do not use hard water to clean the modules.
  • Do not use hard brush to clean the modules.
